Breaking the Ice (Club Vertigo - Attn Destiny)

Postby Jakondite » Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:30 am

The trip is, quite honestly, magical in a way that Arcadia wasn't. Dreams could be like that, you supposed. You didn't ever recall walking the Dreaming Roads, but you must have because the location and place feel familiar - as though you've been here before. But that would imply that the Black King had - at some point - taken you out of Arcadia and brought you back in.

Not entirely unheard of, even if you were pretty sure that had you been taken out of Arcadia you'd have escaped before now. Not that your memories of your escape and the opportunity that had been provided to you was clear to begin with. Still, Arcadia was the Realm of the Fae, but they still traveled the hedge, the dreams, and even to the mortal side from time to time.

As the Wisps pass through you, you feel a strange sense of... Clarity. Like you know your place in the world. Like the madness that surrounds you is all crystal clear, and you have a Lucidity that you otherwise wouldn't have. The wisps provide you with memories, feelings of bonds and connections that help ground you - help make it easier to clear your head should the darkness threaten to overwhelm you.

The gift inside your heart was like the seed of a flower - water it with your tears, and it would blossom to collect it, to help heal your heart. It felt like your Queen, before Thomas stole her innocence. Looking at her now, it's a wonder she can act so happy despite what was done to her. It feels like Gwen, before you...

Before Gwen became what she was now.

That strange sense of clarity and purpose rest in your soul, keeping your mind sharp and unfettered by madness. People gave directions in an effort to allow for partying while keeping things safe. Strangely enough, Diamond, Mindy, and Anavel were the first to part from the group, eager to explore and meet new people. Ross decides to stick with Leone (probably literally chasing tail) and is accompanied by Damien. As for you, and everyone else... well...

Only a spartan few people were sticking by the entrance to keep an eye on things here. You could too - there was a bar on the bottom floor where you could feed your addiction, but you could tell by the falling glasses from the rooms above that there had to be drinks in the other areas as well - so you were not limited.

You could meet new people. Members of the Freehold who were in any of the four (or was it five?) courts. You could learn things - rumors about yourself, about the local hierarchy, about each court, about the threats of the hedge or even the rumors that were more mundane. You could make an impression, playing politics by introducing yourself and trying to find an ally or two to trade favors with in the event you and the club needed a friend. You could also follow Richie, and look for something heavier than a drink - something more potent to take the edge off than a little alcohol. And finally, you could remain here - isolating yourself to your Motley, where it was... safe. Where you were safest.

The choice was yours.

Cleared Minded

You feel as though your mind is as sharp as it ever could be. It's not hard to tell the difference between reality and the madness that would usually exist - at least, not as hard as it normally is. This condition is treated as a Touchstone, meaning that if they do not have a Touchstone, they do not suffer the +2 Clarity Damage for any triggers they usually would. By expending this condition, the changeling is treated as though they spent meaningful time with a touchstone, recovering all clarity damage.

Possible Sources: Will~o~the~Wisps on Dream Road.

Resolution: Expend to recover clarity damage, or lose all willpower.

Dull Beacon 2| Lethal Mien 2

She stopped a moment as the fog of being buzzed cleared. She breathed in, and kept moving. Great. Being clear minded meant that she was too aware, to thoughtful. And images would trickle through her mind that she would rather forget.

She was aware that her body still held the high, but her mind had decided for some reason to filter out the haze of acceptance and whatever else you would call being mind clouded.

She discreetly wiped a tear away as a memory welled up, a memory of her shattering her best friend in the chess games. Her best friend...She had always won but not this time. No, this time she had gone full savage on her and broke her.

The keeper had swept her friend off the chess board with the announcement that she could not be fixed. And thus, Destiny had been truly shot in the heart, it was the last thing she could have handled and she was forced to march on in that bloody hell.

Entering into the club, she smiled at Diamond who apparently got over not wanting to be there and went to talk to someone. She eyed Richies back, and looked around. No, she suspected that drinking or worse would do nothing. She was stuck with it, well she might as well get on with it.

She moved from the group, into the crowd: listening. But if she found someone interesting she may very well talk to them. Right now she just wanted to get a feel for the room.

As you move away from the entrance guarding room, your able to socialize and meet a number of people. Listening and getting a feel for the area, you feel like it's... far more comfortable than you would expect from a society built from people who escaped madhouses like yours. People are relaxed, enjoying themselves - bonding in ways that are almost human. They like to introduce themselves to you constantly - and give you the occasional gift as a congratulations on your escape. Sabrina comes with you - you figure she feels a certain affinity towards you, being a Bishop - and like you, Sabrina could be something of a bitch on the best of days. She always had seemed walked a different path than you though - if you had walked the White Path, then she had walked the Black. If you the red, then she the blue.

Literally walking through two different lines. On the field of battle, it had meant that you could ensure people had difficulty escaping the two of you, but you also couldn't ever directly support one another. Not like you could today.

Years ago, she'd have been among the first to go with Richie. These days though, she and Richie were... well, not on the best of terms. She wasn't on the best of terms with a lot of people.

You lose track of the names, if not the faces - too many to really remember and while your mind has clarity, clarity doesn't always mean perfect recall -- apparently, anyways. They talk to you about all sorts of things - from the four monarchs, to the theories about the fifth court and if it existed, and what it might be if it did - or how it would even manage to exist without the entire freehold knowing about it. One person talks to you about something that does perk your interest, if only because it would have - once upon a time - applied to you: A rumor about a serial killer, going throughout the city of New Haven and killing people who were all part of your old high school. If you don't bother to explain, Sabrina follows up on it, and they tell you to be careful being out on the streets if they realize you were a part of that group - after all, you'd be on the serial killers list.

The drinks, by the way, are amazing here. You've no doubt gotten to try them by this point. It's heavy shit, but it doesn't fog up your mind. It does make it easier to put that little bug of gwen to the back of your head and close it, while focusing on the trip. Like it was geared to deal with painful memories and make you forget all about them and focus on the day.

You get to dance and have fun, if you want to. Or wallflower - honestly, Sabrina's not too pushy about doing stuff even though the two of you are pretty much geared to hang with each other unless you trade partners with someone.

As you wander through the rooms, meeting people, you do arrive in front of a door - the next place you were going to go. Only, something in the back of your mind tells you "no". Like, walking through that door might be dangerous, or there was something going on on the other side that you weren't supposed to see. It might upset people if you look. You can't quite say why the door makes you uncomfortable as it glows it's almost emerald hue. Other doors exist that are far less intimidating - a bluish, cool door. A reddish burning door. A rainbow-hued door that seemed to shift rhymically to the music.

Only this door, however, gave you the willies.

She found herself more comfortable than she had been in a long time, despite the alcohol not clouding her mind. She was comfortable with Sabrina, they seemed to work well together. She listened, spoke to others but didnt stay to long with one group. She did dance both with Sabrina and others and finally motioned the other Bishop to move along.

The news of the serial killer, she would look into likely later.

It was the door they came to that got her attention now, her brows came together as she watched it "Thats....I dont like..you know what?" She stepped forward and tried to open it

"No risk, no reward, as they say," Sabrina comments to the door, and said, "It feels weird though. I wonder if its a warning, or an invitation?"

What she could mean by that, she didn't express before Destiny walked through the door to reveal the other side.

You see a lot of faces on the other side - but none of them matter. What matters is the circle, the vast distance most of the people in this room were giving three different people. People dance, drink, and enjoy themselves - but always, always are their attentions on that circle. Specifically, their attentions are on a man. You'd seen Amber before, so you knew what it was like to look at a human and think they were their own work of art - he was that. No Stranger you'd ever laid eyes upon was as perfect as this otherwise human man. But he wasn't normal, and all the fear and trepidation you felt became realized when you heard the screaming coming from the book at his side.

It wasn't human screaming, it was more like the pages were screaming. They were wrapped in leather, which was in turn wrapped in iron chains - but even so. You recognize one of the Others when you see it, even bound as it was. Even screaming as it was.

The man was literally holding a god at his side, not even paying attention to it's screams - in the middle of twenty or so Lost who had personally experienced a being like that torturing them. There was something almost... catharthic in the sight.

Talking to him, was an almost lightly amused woman, chastising him for what you can only imagine is the fact that he brought that book with him. She's idly letting her fingers run along someone, another lost - a girl. Not a girl, a lost - and your not sure when you look at her if what is more disturbing - the book, or the girl.

She's out of place, in a way. She's the iconic fairy, with beautiful little butterfly wings that protrude from her back - petite and poise, elegant in a way few could really capture. But she's... bound. Bound by spider webs that glisten like steel, erotically almost around her arms, legs, breasts, thighs. Okay, there was no 'almost' about that, that was completely erotic and saying it was anything but was only fooling yourself, but given the history it was also alien and strange.

Who'd be okay with being bound like that, after everything they'd all gone through?

The woman who you can only imagine is the one who bound her screams arachnid in nature. Her hair is like spiderlegs, and she's clothed in a carapace - humanoid, yet alien as well. Alien was a term you could apply to all lost, yet here it seemed to -fit- between the three of them, because even Sabrina next to you is frozen for a moment going 'what the hell did I just walk into'.

You notice the air too - like the shadows were gasping for air, like occultic runes seemed to be floating in the air around them. It was a mantle of power that surrounded the three of them, the type of which you can only assume is autumn (having experienced the much more comparatively pleasant and less frightening of the other three already). It was too powerful to ignore, unlike Tom or Anavel's - it seemed almost like it would dwarf Leone's in power.

She just stood there for a bit, her eyes wide. She wasn't sure what to think of it and she was aware that Sabrina was also as stunned as she was. She breathed in..perhaps it was the liquor that wasn't allowing her mind to wrap in haze, maybe it was liquid courage. But she squared her shoulders..she would not be afraid AND they had not told them to leave, or...whatever. So she stepped in and looked around more, with curiosity.

Sabrina breathed in - and steeled herself. Okay - So it wasn't what she was expecting when she thought of the Autumn Court but - they delved in sorcery, fear, knowledge and madness. While this was enough to make her hands tremble, it also fit their motif - right? And Destiny was holding her own so...

Together we stand, divided we fall - no one was alone in the Chess Club. Ever. And Destiny was moving forward, which meant that even though a part of her wanted to flee out of the door, she moved forward too. The silken-wrapped butterfly fae's head looks in their direction - if something whose eyes are covered could be said to look. You hear what sounds like chittering, chattering, and whispers in the air.

"I'm just saying that we're intimidating enough as it is without bringing one of them here. Even our kind don't like that," The spider woman could be heard saying as you approached.

"It's harmless," The man says with a little smile, "I personally think it's better that they know and feel that such works are -possible- with the right amount of cunning. Speaking of knowing..."

The spider's gaze shifted over to them, and she smiled - a smile that is both offputting and inviting.

"That," A voice says near them, approaching. "Is the Prince of Whispers. He's not fae, as I'm sure you've noticed, but the book you likely have noticed is. It isn't dangerous though, despite what it is. A long time ago, he had the choice between killing one of them and enslaving one in such a way that it disobeying him meant the end of it's existence. You can imagine what he thought was the better of the two options."

The person who was speaking to them looked something like a Victorian Doctor - Blood Tipped hands, enlongated fingers, pale skin that was almost greyish in nature - glasses that are pitch black and which don't seem to have eyes behind them - too hard to tell, but any time you look from an angle you never catch the eyes. He continues speaking, casually, as though he was familiar with the two of you, "The other two are Aisling and Lorelei, the Queen and her most trusted confidante of the Court of Knowledge. I am impressed, I must say - most would have walked right back out of the room."

He extended a hand to the two of them, "Doctor Stolis. A pleasure, ladies."

She had dealt with off putting people before..

Had she?

She tilted her head and offered a return smile of sorts, full of sharp teeth. She considered going over and ..what? She didn't know. Likely get herself and Sabrina tied up too by accident.

She tilted her head, steeling herself as someone spoke. Blue eyes taking in the book and the person with the book. She turned her eyes to him and gave him the same sharp smile and extended elongated fingers also seemingly dipped in blood and shook his hand. "Destiny, and this is Sabrina. I..felt the ..." She just motioned to the door "I did not want to be afraid. If he is not fae, what is he that he can do that to a fae?"

"A pleasure, ladies. I believe I actually ran into a few of your number in the market the other day," He smiled the kind of charming smile that doctors could get when putting an individual at ease. "As for the Prince, that is a question many of us wish to know. He and his brood consider themselves gods, and a great many individuals agree with them. Polytheistic Gods, mind - not that monotheistic judeo-christian god which claims to be all powerful, all knowing, and all loving and that those -aren't- contradictions." He smiled. "But then, the Strangers are Gods too, so I suppose that doesn't tell an individual much about him."

"No, not really," Sabrina said, looking to the man, then to Stolis, "Comparatively, he seems a lot more... I don't know. Contained than the Black King was? Physical? Not as Alien."

"That's a form, darling," Stolis said calmly. "Not his real one. The proper term for him, and the Goddess of Desire, are 'Beasts'. They are - according to them - the Children of the Dark Mother, entities of the Primordial Dream which birthed all monsters. But that is a conversation for him, I imagine. Or the Spring King's Courtesan."

The spider began weaving the butterfly further and further, more tightly and completely. Eventually, the webs would cover her entire body but for her lips to allow her breath. "You came at a good time. This is... something of a show. Artistry. Not for everyone's taste, but for those who choose to no longer be afraid? If your willing to set your fears to the side, there are things you can learn about the world that all those who turn their gaze from it refuse to look at."

She slowly inclined her head, and then said "After what we have been through, I am sure there are all sorts of things we do not know. So a Beast as a explanation can be accepted and perhaps another time Ill get to speak to him on it. Though I think tonight getting to know those here is more pressing" She smiled in what she felt was gently but some would find uneasy. She turned her eyes to look at the other Bishop to see how she was holding up, giving her a arched brow and a tilt to the head as if asking if she wanted to go further. One step forward said that SHE at least did.

Her attention turned to the Autumn queen for a few moments before she moved forward to watch "We can stay. If nothing else it will show is if this is a court we might be interested in beyond no longer being afraid of what happened"
