The Scavenger Colony (log)

The stars can be seen , so lovely for such a sorrowful place. Suicide cliffs are a expanse of rock face that has green foliage and trees near the top. At the bottom the waves of the ocean crash against jagged rocks. Sometimes crimson can be seen in the waves and legend has it that is the blood of those poor souls that have chosen to take their life and all they left behind was blood in the water.

Snow
The Moon was beautiful tonight. Even through the dreary, rainy weather and the dark foreboding clouds that never seemed to leave the city, it shown triumphantly through the haze and heralded what would be the coming of the full moon. At this time was when Snow felt at her most powerful - the Gibbous Moon's light may only shine on her once or twice in the night, but for those briefest moments it was enough to feel closest to her own purpose.

She's dressed in her street clothes - Alex kept trying to get her to wear things that were more fashionable, but Snow preferred function over presentability. Her jeans had a number of tears, and her jacket was set to help stave off the water - hands covered in fingerless gloves. Her hair was almost white even wet from the rain as it was, with most of it covered by a hood. Her eyes were the color of lightning crashing with snow - a stark color that almost seemed to glow in the dark.

She and Alex were patrolling the territory now - it was routine, almost. Take a walk through the city neighborhood to determine if something seems off, or more unusual than normal. Look at the news to see if any events are happening that could have catastrophic effects on the spirit world. Of course, here there was always -something off. It took the form of a malignant scar in the spirit world, and had long since been the center of a great many of their packs issues - it was a given something was wrong with that, so patrols usually involved making sure something -new- wasn't happening in the city that needed attention - or that the Wound itself wasn't spreading, that the spirits were not crossing the boundary from either side of it.

Alex:
*She was follwoing on along. Well yes, as usual they were a constract as the girl had on designed jeans, with a line of delicate white embroidering to the side of her right left, a sweater, grey with a patter of glittery stones here and there, and a trench coat, which was useless cause she had it open as she stalked behind Snow, she hadn't been in the great of moods today, all gloomy and quiet*

The view was rather nice from here. Off the cliffs, you could see the ocean stretching out to meet sister sky at the horizon as they gently laugh about the weather and waves, and there's the smell of spray and salt to sooth the troubled soul on their way down, down, down to the rocks below. There had been talk of putting up signs or fences for years, but the opposition had good arguments about the unstable soil possibly triggering a rockslide, and of course there's always the ever-present issue of budget. Is it really worth the precious taxpayer money?

Not that they would do much. The unnatural compulsion was strong, and ugly. Sooner or latter one of you would need to see how things are on the other side of the gauntlet.

Snow looks at the area - didn't seem like any ne're-do-wells were out partying tonight, which was a relief. She looked to Alex, and then said, "I'll go ahead and keep an eye on our surroundings. You mind checking the other side, seeing what's going on there?"

Alex was the Ithaeur after all. If something was strange then she'd be the one to determine it.

*She nodded, though she did seem distracted... hum clift... well the SIGHT was gorgeous, so she had been actually walking over to the edge JUUUST to peek down! you know hights, cool, neat, ocean.... And stopped, looking to Snow, ah!* sure *frowning a second, as she concentrates to change the way she sees things, so she can peek over*

The thing about the Suicide Cliffs wound is that it's not as obvious as most People expect a wound to be. It's not the pulsating hatred with the upturned scabs of ground, oozing the blood of the accused that forever soaks the ground. For the Cliffs, depending on how fully your senses come over, there's a sense of...calm. Except it's not the right kind of calm, as the overwhelmingly sweet pheromones of despair, worthlessness, and sacrifice (as some victims see their suicide as a removal of their burdens from their loved ones) start to overwhelm you. You can start to feel the downhill pull that leads towards the slippery edge, and below...you can smell the rotting stink of the maw that lies just off the cliffs, the real source of the wound. A blood-soaked pulsating tumor of jagged edges lies below to feed of those who throw themselves upon it's mercy, sprayed upon by the turbulent digestive juices of the ocean.

Otherwise, things look perfectly normal.

Snow kept an eye on their surroundings while Alex observed, keeping a sense of her packmates emotional state looking through it. Looking at the Wound, being in the wound or around the wound - it was never easy. It required calm, a sense of purpose and ability to keep oneself level - an instance could pass in this area and you'd lose everything - the rage would overtake you, and the rest of your pack would soon follow suit.

She reached over - not knowing how fully Alex was there, to gently take her hand. Whether she could feel it or not was another matter entirely - but the reminder that she was there was something Snow tried to convey.

*Problem was... Alex wasn't really ragey, was she? she was the calmer, the one who had been more sad, more down... her emotions had been swirling between hyperactive happy and down right to sounding depressed... so.... so she DID feel the pull, her steps starting to take her to the edge... just to look, she was JUST looking.. that's what she was doing, right? just looking... down.. at the maws... that closed in hunger at the despairing and the sad... at the gap that took away what hope might one retain... at.... she felt Snowy's hand and her sight shifted back up, looking to her* uh.... downwards

Above the two of you, a flock of seagulls circles above, almost in anticipation. Have there been THAT many suicides on these cliffs?

Snow looks to Alex, and asks, "What did it look like?" She looks up to the Seagulls, almost wishing she'd taken the time to learn to speak their tongue. It was on the list, things just never seemed to come up appropriately. She looked above herself, and then down to Alex almost... expectantly.

uh...*she... leans juuuust a nutch further* like a huge maw.. all teeth and.... theeth.. and more teeth, make the water look like saliva... like if it wanted to get you all for itself... pulling... and pulling....*she moved a tiiiiiiny bit more on*

Some of the seagulls land nearby. Some of them are rooting around for worms and seeds to snack on, as rats of the sky should do, while a few seem more interested in these two weirdos walking around.

She nodded and then said, "So... the same as usual for this place I guess. We should probably start checking the other places." She looked to the Seagulls, and gave a sort of... glare at them. There is the shift of her visual senses, just to make sure, but besides that... she wanted to get out of this place as soon as possible. It'd probably be that way for a long time.

uh hu.... usual *wow... it DID look creepy... and.... uhm, she started to move backwards* where to then?

Within the shadow, a number of those gulls disappear from view, save for the after effects of the motes they generate by indulging in the act of consuming and defecating, looking like little spores floating up and subsuming into the general atmosphere.

The rest of them however, are of more concern as they're still there in the shadow. Mostly. It's more like you can see their essence-infused nervous systems...which stretch out into one another, with each gull being a node in this tiny leyline network. One of the witnessing gulls within the connected flock then asks you a simple question: "Fall?"

"No Falling Today. And you are on the wrong side." She says, her voice fairly aggressive in it's statement. She looks to the gulls, a quiet thought about her. Birds would be more her specialty than Alex's, so she could point out anything unusual about them to give to the Ithaeur. She looked to Alex, or where Alex had been, and then pointed to where the gulls were.

uh? oh yea... there are here in Shadow too *she looked at them, but she shook her head, shaking it to shake off the odd feeling the clift had given her* no... no falling. Go off
TLStoryteller:

"FALL!" The rest of the...seven? Yea, seven gulls start chiming in, almost...no, they're actually mocking you, Snow. "FALL! FALL. Fall! fall? FALL! FALL!"

:
TLStoryteller has rolled an Dread Power: Depress roll (7 dice), getting 7, 7, 10, 5, 7, 1, 2, 2, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. TLStoryteller has 1 success.

Snow has rolled an Resolve 3 + Primal Urge 3 roll (6 dice), getting 4, 1, 10, 5, 8, 4, 3, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. Snow has 2 successes.

Snow has rolled an Know the Prey Wits 2 - 1 (Untrained) + 2 Honor + Willpower (Because, like an idiot, I didnt take any socialize) roll (6 dice), getting 5, 3, 1, 7, 9, 3, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. Snow has 1 success.

"Fall. Ok. Yeah. I can make things fall." She snarled, and then said, "Here's the deal, you only get one. Let go of the birds and scurry off to the other side, otherwise your going to be next on our list - and trust me, it's not the happy party fun times list."

In fact, the only reason she'd not -already- torn them apart was because they were still flying. Not that Alex couldn't make that... difficult for them. Least, she figured she could.

*Well she looked up, watching, them hearing Snowy... she'll wiat for them to answer her, before trying a trick, her eyes looking to the water falling on them... yea that could work*

Well...no, the seven linked gulls were currently on the ground. This strange claimed swarm (from the court of the local wound, former member of the Court of Gloom) does take to the air with...really shitty synchronicity, but it might be natural camouflage. This was before they then dive at the two of you, screaming all the way.
"FALL! FALL! FALL? FALL. FALL...fall, FALL!"

:
TLStoryteller has rolled an Drill peck! Vs Both, but lower defense of 6 will apply Vs 9 dice roll (3 dice), getting 2, 4, 9, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. TLStoryteller has 1 success.

(Whisper to Snow, Alex) ((note, the swarm will be vulnerable to attack with a defense of 7, as you can swat them before they get away. This Colony's pretty young and dumb, thankfully))

Snow has rolled an Strength 2 + Brawl 3 - 7 Defense (Chance Die) roll (1 dice), getting 2, with a difficulty of 10 on a 10 sided die. Snow has failed the roll. This was a chance die.

It's almost an immediate action, to dodge and make a slight kick in their direction - unfortunately, that doesn't much work (of course it wouldn't. You ever try hitting a flying bird? Stupid, stupid Snow. You need a shot gun for these types of things). Her mind quickly starts to take note of the various details of her surroundings on her next move, backing up. They might not be appropriately ready to deal with a swarm but...

TLStoryteller:
14 | 10/13/2016 2:05 am (Whisper to Alex) Roll 4 more! sorry about the confusion, I'm still getting used to these rules myself, and I'm pretty sure there's no penalty.

While Snow's efforts to claw the little bastards yield nothing but feathers, Alex channels the essence through the scars of her gift of Elements, using her wisdom to dampen the air and create a spontaneous deluge, right in the many faces of this claimed Colony of Seaguls (which is the actual name for a group of seaguls). Between the surprise and the intensity of the little storm, the seagulls are forced to glide to the ground as they try to shake themselves off. (they are soaked, meaning -2 Defense (new total 5), and they are currently landed and vulnerable to melee attack as well as ranged).

:
Snow has rolled an Shift to Dalu (1 Essence) Strength 3 + Brawl 3 + Willpower 3 - Defense 5 roll (4 dice), getting 7, 10, 6, 2, 6, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. Snow has 1 success.

She lunged, her form glowing in the span of an instant as claws raked low to the ground, ripping into one of the creatures with an almost eletric speed - and as she does, there is almost the image overlapping her, that image of Skolis in her skin - that beautiful white hair like snow in the wind, the resemblance uncanny to another, greater wolf

Alex:
7 | 10/13/2016 2:29 am (Whisper to TLStoryteller) if I try to sit on one is dex or str?
TLStoryteller:

*Well.. Alex nodded ot herself, and tried to sit on one!!! of course just falling on her butt as the thing moved* arhg!
:
TLStoryteller:
14 | 10/13/2016 2:36 am (Whisper to Alex) Actually, roll 1 more die. I'm basing it's defense on the number of gulls there are, and Snow just ripped one to bits.
Management:
0 | 10/13/2016 2:37 am Alex has rolled an Cause Snowy made one puff roll (1 dice), getting 4, with a difficulty of 8 on a 10 sided die. Alex has failed the roll.
Alex:
7 | 10/13/2016 2:38 am (Whisper to TLStoryteller, Snow) ((ok. mental note, Alexx butt is not AS big as it needs to to squash birds...)

One of the birds is torn to shreds with a single strike from Snow's claws, it's little feathered body tumbling into the ocean as the leyline-nerves snap off. (Defense Pool is now base 6)

Alex was inflected with the "Blue Mood tilt", which fades at the conclusion of this scene

The Colony shouts at the other werewolf, now six strong. However, their dreadful cries manage to worm their way into Alex's Mind, inflicting her with the "Blue Mood tilt" (willpower now gives one dice rather than three), as your fiery will is reduced somewhat. Is that their hunting strategy, to gradually wear down the defenses of their prey?

"This isn't working," Snow said with a snarl. "Fall back - We'll deal with him later."

When they could set up appropriate rituals, have the assistance of their Totem, among other things. The creature was stupid - they'd be able to track him down with little issue, and when they rent him asunder they could do so as appropriate.

...Besides, Snow knew it's name. It could be summoned.

*She frowns, as she falls on her butt, this was useless... and pointless... how they could go win this kind of battles if they had lost one of the most importnat... along with Hudson... they were... they were... she... she heard Snow and looked over, blinking... staring her way.... uh?*

As the two wolves retreat and the colony watches on, still trying to command their next essence-ridden meal to fall (they don't peruse, though. Trappers rarely do), Snow realizes that she does have their blood on her claws, so they can find the creature again, allowing both of them the means to easily find the colony again.
